Edison Seirei-Nuri Urushi Mina Fountain Pen

This product shot is a tribute to inventor Thomas Edison and his second wife Mina (seen in the portrait). The fountain pen in this image is a limited edition pen - number 1 of only 20 pens made - named "Mina" in honor of Mrs. Edison. The pen was produced by the Edison Pen Co. (no relation to Thomas) in collaboration with Japanese urushi artist Ernest Shin. The pen is made from ebonite and covered with many layers of lacquer (urushi). Gold is then added using a process similar to marbleizing (called Seirei-Nuri) to create the pattern. The "Edison Gold Moulded Record" tubes in this photo contain wax cylinders - the first "records" invented by Edison. The lightbulb, watch, and other items completing this scene are also from the same era.
